Obituary

Susan Elizabeth Brown Forcum, age 71, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Raleigh on January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM.

Susan Forcum was born on December 12, 1952 at Fort Dix, NJ to Edna Albertson Brown and her father Cecil Hunter. Edna later married Thelton Lem Brown, who became "daddy" to Susan when he adopted her, raising her as his own daughter. Susan grew up in Beulaville and Chinquapin and graduated from East Duplin High School.

She met James Marshall "Jim" Forcum, Sr. at UNC-Wilmington and they married on January 27, 1973 in Beulaville, sharing nearly 52 wonderful years together and raising three children.

Susan began her career at Wachovia Bank in Wilmington and later Raleigh, before the birth of her children. After ten years as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to Wachovia, retiring in 2017 as an executive assistant to the bank's Triangle East president. She especially enjoyed her relationships with the local board of directors.

Susan and Jim joined Redeemer Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Raleigh in 2009; Redeemer immediately began feeding them spiritually as well as physically (as needed). Susan became known for her steadfast faith in God the Father and Jesus Christ. A group of women collected around her, referring to themselves as the "Prayer Queens"; they provided prayer and comfort for Susan and to many others. She also supported Redeemer as Nursery Coordinator, a member of the Communion Team, and many other roles. Her deep Christian faith and her refusal to yield to cancer touched everyone she met.

Above all, Susan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She was proud to be an Albertson "First Cousin." She was a constant source of love and friendship to all.

Susan's favorite saying about being a grandparent was that "Children are often spoiled because no one will spank Grammy." Her grandchildren say they will remember "Grammy" for "being kind," and because "she was beautiful" and "a good baker."

She is survived by her husband, Jim, her three children: Lura Forcum, James Marshall "Marshall" Forcum,
Jr. (Kelsey), and Christopher Edward Forcum (Kimi) and her seven grandchildren: Keane, Lorelei, and
Teague De los Santos; Lucas, Nathan, and Hannah Forcum; and Aubrey Forcum. She is also survived by her brother, Thelton Lem "Butch" Brown, Jr. (Melanie).

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Thelton Brown. The family wishes to thank the medical Durham where she was treated for 15 years in the ICU 5th floor nurses and staff at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

A celebration of Susan's life was held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 1pm at Community Funeral Home, of Beulaville.
