Obituary

Shelby Dean Moore Griffin was just shy of her 90th birthday when our Lord and Savior called her home on April 29th. Those who knew her may probably chuckle because she wasn't shy of anything else in life for sure. However, she was ready to meet the Lord last Wednesday, so...she did! Now, rather than being in the presence of her beloved doll and angel collections, she is surrounded by real angels every day.

She was loved and now missed by her caring family who always stood by her side. With their dedication, she was able to stay in her home until she departed for her heavenly mansion. That was very important to her and her family made sure that happened.

If you've ever heard of a woman of indomitable strength and courage, she was the epitome of just that. She stood her ground and held those around her accountable to their highest abilities. Just ask her children and grandchildren.
However, the grands and great grands got to see a softer, gentler side of her.

She had time in her latter years after retiring, to dote on them and get down to their level and play and "get some sugar". She loved making them happy and if anyone ever walked into her house and claimed to be hungry, she'd go straight to the kitchen and cook them a bite to eat.

She was generationally renowned for her biscuits. They will never again be recreated with the dedication she baked into each one. She even personally stamped each one with her fingerprints! That seems to be everyone's fondest most talked about memory; is Her biscuits.

She was also a trained cake decorator as well. We all remember her making the wedding cakes for her children's weddings! There wasn't any task she wouldn't attempt. She could sew beautiful curtains and make hand-stitched quilts!

She was a fearless woman who deep down had a heart of gold. Her children probably didn't appreciate her rules and expectations as they were growing up, but all of them turned out to be good stewards in this world, raising their own wonderful families.

Everyone has memories of moments that shaped their lives. She could be a force to be reckoned with, yet a force of deep love and compassion. She lived a good, clean life on her terms and the support and kindness she was shown was a testament to her character.

You never had to wonder where you stood with her, because there was truth and conviction in her words and actions. She wasn't one to placate feelings, or shy away from speaking what was on her mind. She expected honesty and integrity in her children and grandchildren.

At a distance, she was admired for being staunch in her beliefs and standing up for what was right. If only more people could be that strong, the world might be different. There was no gray in her life. It was black and white and from afar, we admired her greatly.

Her children, Colon, Dianne and Glenn grew up to be beautiful well rounded, kind souls. They probably didn't realize how blessed they were growing up with a strong mother but if a mirror were to reflect what shines in their hearts...they'd see truth, kindness and love. That's a seed that was planted by their parents. GC and Shelby balanced life so well and now they are finally together again.

She is preceded in death by her spouse, G.C. Griffin, father, Ezra Moore, mother, Margaret Simmons Moore, siblings; Eunice Griffin, E.W. Moore, Buddy Moore (Margaret), Bobby Moore (Ethel), Edna Watkins (Orvis), child, Colon Griffin and grandchild, Bryan Griffin
