Roy Allen Lanier, 84, of Wallace, NC left his earthly life on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC. Born on December 13, 1936 in Duplin County, he is the son of the late John William Lanier "Pa Johnnie" and Rosa Edna Raynor Lanier. Also proceeding in death is his brother- William Earl Lanier "Dick."
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Marie Sholar Lanier, son- Bryan Dumm and wife Stacie of Beulaville, two grandchildren- Abbigail and Jamison, Sisters- Hazel Lanier Henderson of Wallace and Darlene Lanier of Beulaville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Roy worked for JP Stevens and he was a tobacco farmer. Him and Marie ran Marie's Gas and Grill from 1995-1998 as well as R & M Bait shop, and he went on to retire after 30 years from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
Roy was known for stopping at Luther's store for a Pepsi Cola and a moon pie. He loved to coon and squirrel hunt and for many years his best dog, Spot, tagged along with him. Roy was quite the handyman. He built a sawmill, where he enjoyed woodworking. Roy was known for his photographic memory. He could see something he liked, and he would come home and build it. He was truly a jack of all trades.
He took pride in his work. He built and raced go-karts, and with the help of Jimmy Mobley, he built a mud truck named "Roy's Toy." Roy's Toy presented in many races at the Duplin Mud Pit. When he retired it, the name carried on as Roy's Toy II by his nephew, Jerome.
Roy was a great mentor to many. He gave his best advice, tough love when needed, but most importantly he gave his all. He loved his family and friends and was very proud of them all. He will be greatly missed.
