Ronald Gene Brown was born on December 28th 1951. He was the son of Willard and Hattie Belle Brown of Kenansville, NC.
Gene enlisted in the US Navy in the Spring of 1969 at the age of 17 where he served active duty until 1971. He was stationed in Panama/the South Pacific during his service. Later in June of 1969, he reconnected with his childhood friend Gloria Jones. They were married on November 14th 1970 and resided in Kenansville until 1971. At that time, they relocated to Leland where Gene worked with DuPont as an industrial mechanic for 28 years until retirement.
Their daughter Angela Michelle was born November 12th, 1972. They later moved to Wilmington where they were active members of Wilmington OFWB Church. The family returned home to Duplin County in 1978. For years, he enjoyed working on electronics, repairing CB Radios and building amplifiers. He owned and operated a very successful business that he loved, Ghost Electronics. Gene also worked at Dupin General Hospital as a maintenance technician for several years. More recently he was employed with Duplin County Solid Waste as a site manager for 8 years, where he enjoyed making new friends and seeing old friends.
In his spare time, he enjoyed deep sea fishing on his boat "Grandaddy's Rocking Chair", as well as fishing in nearby creeks and rivers. In later years, his favorite pastime was playing golf with his grandchildren and friends.
Gene and his family have been active members of Pearsall Chapel OFWB since 1978, where he has served as a Deacon for many years. Gene was very fond of Cragmont Assembly where he and Gloria shared many treasured memories as camp counselors.
Gene was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a very family oriented man, some of his most cherished times were spent at home with his growing family.
