R ichard Lamonte Brinson "Lamont," passed away peacefully from metastatic lung cancer on March 11, 2025. He drew his last breath surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11am at the Brinson Family Cemetery located at 380 Haw Branch Road in Richlands, NC. His family would like to encourage anyone who smokes to quit now and for those who don't smoke, please don't start.

Mr. Brinson was born in Jacksonville, NC on March 3, 1952, to Randolph and Christine Brinson. He grew up in Richlands, NC, and received his education from Richlands High School and the School of Hard Knocks. He first met the love of his life, Esther Mills, when he came to her house in Trenton, NC, looking for his hunting dogs. He later saw her again at the Toot-n-Tell-It in Richlands, NC where he asked her out. They married three months later on August 15, 1970. At the time of his passing they were married just shy of 55 years. Their union produced two children: Richard, Jr. "Monte" and Jennifer. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his family and he looked forward to family lunches on Sunday. He worked in drywall finish with his brother Danny Brinson his adult life and occasionally farmed, first with his father-in-law, Milton Mills, and later with his brother, Morris Brinson. He was a hardworking man and only retired when health issues made working impossible.

Mr. Brinson enjoyed hunting with his son-in-law, James, field trials, and watching old westerns and Bewitched reruns with Esther and NASCAR races on Sunday. He took great pride in his garden and loved sharing his bounty with family and friends. He was an active member of Whaley's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church until he was no longer able to attend, but he watched Sunday services on YouTube. He loved his church and the many friends he had there. He will be missed by everyone.

Mr. Brinson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Randolph and Christine Brinson; his maternal grandmother, Bessie Baysden Edwards, special father and mother-in-law, Milton and Pattie Mills and grandmother-in-law, Junnie Turner Mills, who all loved him like a son; and a very special sister-in-law; Rachel Mills White "Sissy."

He is survived by his wife, Esther Mills Brinson; his son, Richard Lamonte Brinson, Jr. "Monte;" his daughter, Jennifer Brinson Whaley (James); a special sister-in-law, Dolores Day Mills "Susie;" two granddaughters, Brittany Whaley Sanderson (Trent) and Victoria Whaley Mercer (Seth); five great-grandchildren, Addison Griffin, Ava Mercer, Nash Sanderson, Dawson Sanderson, and Fallon Mercer; his brothers, Danny Brinson (Geraldine) and Morris Brinson (Patty); his sister, Kay Straughn; his close friends, Wayne Moore and Victor Jones and many nephews and nieces.

Lamont will be deeply missed by his family but they find solace knowing he is free from pain and is whole once more in the presence of the Lord, joyfully reunited with his beloved parents, who he cherished and missed so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Mr. Brinson's request for donations to be made to Camp Vandemere Christian Camp in Vandemere, NC in memory of Lamont Brinson.
