Joan Walker Stroud, 84, of Albertson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her immediate family.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She loved the Lord and lived her life with a quiet, steadfast faith. She was His good and faithful servant throughout her life.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Nell and Arnold Walker; and her brothers, Elwood Walker, Leonard Walker, Dwight Walker, and Hal Walker.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert (Bobby) Gray Stroud; her daughter, Stacee Stroud Storm, and son-in-law, Ron Storm, of Albertson; grandson, Tyler Keith Storm, granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Xiques Storm, and great-grandson, Logan Joseph Storm, of Raleigh; granddaughters, Graylin Montrese Storm and Gillim Joy Storm, both of Albertson; and daughter, Breta Joy Stroud, and her partner, Dr. Mark Heffington, of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by her only sister, Grace Walker Kennedy, of Albertson, NC; sisters-in-law Jo Ann Walker, Elaine Jarman, Lucille Walker, Janice Walker, Suzanne Walker, Jean Parks, Thelma Stroud and Cheryl Stroud; and brothers-in-law Sonny Stroud, Thomas Stroud, and Arnold Jarman; as well as countless nieces and nephews and grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand nieces and nephews.

Joan was a lifelong learner and enjoyed reading her Bible, always seeking to understand the many ways the Lord speaks to us and reveals His presence in our lives. Her faith was a source of comfort and guidance throughout her life.

She also enjoyed sewing, photography, and walking along the beach collecting interesting seashells and sea glass. She had an eye for finding beauty in unexpected places, turning wild turkey feathers, vines, and pinecones into beautiful home décor. Family who visited during hospice, especially her nieces and sisters-in-law, spoke of how Joan always made them feel special, welcome, and loved.

The family thanks extended family, friends, and the community for their love, support, and prayers during this time.

Community Funeral Home of Beulaville is honored to serve the Stroud family.
