Edna Joyce Stroud Taylor left this Earth for her Heavenly Home on March 10, 2023. She spent her final days at home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Edna Joyce was born on September 26, 1945 to Earl and Edna Kelly Stroud of Albertson, NC; and was the youngest of their four children.
She attended B.F. Grady School up until the opening of East Duplin High School, during her senior year. Edna Joyce became a member of the first graduating class of East Duplin in 1963. She remained active in her high school reunions and maintained many of these friendships throughout her life.
Edna Joyce met Donald Ray Taylor, the love of her life, in 1963. Just six months later, they were married on January 18, 1964, and enjoyed 59 years together. Rarely seen apart, Donald and Edna referenced each other as their "rock and best friend". To Donald, Edna Joyce was his "Everything". They have owned and worked in several businesses together including farming, carpet cleaning and trucking. Edna joined Donald in delivering plants for Johnson Nursery up until her illness in 2022.
Friends and family have described Edna Joyce as a spirited, feisty, faithful, fun, spicy, tell-it-like-it-is, hardworking and loving person. She enjoyed a good time, traveling, reading Amish romance books, sewing, church activities, tending her flowers and watching the birds. Many friends would bring their new and old clothes to Edna to be stitched, hemmed and repaired. Her favorite thing was to spend time with her family and friends, especially watching her grandkids grow. When she was able, Edna thoroughly enjoyed attending the school and sporting events of her grandsons. On their birthdays, family members always looked forward to a morning phone call in which Edna would sing "Happy Birthday".
Edna Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna Stroud; brothers, Hugh Earl Stroud and Kenneth Owen Stroud (Bud); sister, Doris Stroud King; daughter, Melinda Gayle Taylor Stampe; and a dear friend, Alan Stampe.
Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her husband, Donald Ray Taylor; daughters, Donna Taylor Marshburn (Sammy) and Ginger Taylor (John Marcucci). She has four grandsons, Lex Marshburn (Hayden), Carries Marshburn (Kyndall), Jackson Stampe and Taylor Stampe. She also leaves behind a great granddaughter, Leighton Marshburn; son-in-law, Mark Stampe (Michelle); and dear friend, Carolyn Stampe. Many nieces, nephews and friends are also left to cherish her memory.
Edna Joyce Stroud Taylor loved fiercely and had a laugh that was contagious. She would want for you to remember her in this way.
