Obituary

David Wayne Pierce, known to many as "Fiddle Man Dave," stepped into the gates of glory on March 24, 2025, and heard the words, "Well Done," as he met his Lord and Savior.

David loved sharing about the goodness of the Lord. He wanted everyone to have a personal experience with the Lord so they could make heaven their home one day.

He was a loving brother, beloved fiddle player, and cherished friend to many. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. David had numerous tales to share (all of which were true) about his adventures and life on the mountain that would enchant any audience. He would always lift people up in prayer and be sure to remind you that he was "Praying on the MT."
In his early years, David developed a passion for music. He prayed for God to give him the talent to play the fiddle and God answered that prayer. In the little community of Back Swamp, NC, he began his musical journey by playing and singing Bluegrass Gospel with his family, creating beautiful harmonies that resonated everywhere he was blessed to play.
David's musical journey took him around the world, where he shared his talent and love for the fiddle with diverse audiences. He traveled to places like Switzerland and Belize. He played at theme parks such as Busch Gardens and Dollywood. David also played in many of the local theaters and shows like Kickin' Country and The Hatfield and McKoy Show in Tennessee. He met and played with many of the big names in bluegrass and country music. Some of his dearest friends were members of the Parton family. The Lord truly blessed him to live life to its fullest.

His dedication to preserving the art of fiddle playing inspired many budding musicians, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and love for the craft. David taught music lessons to young and old alike there on his mountain. He had a simplistic style of teaching that allowed anyone to learn. One of his students went on to play in a symphony orchestra. Not only did he play the fiddle, but he could crank out tunes on most any instrument. He enjoyed playing music and could just jump right in and play any genre without even practicing, all of which he would quickly tell you that God blessed him to be able to do.

In addition to his musical talents, David had a deep love for nature and animals. He found joy working in his garden, where he grew cabbage collards, rattlesnake beans, grapes, and herbs for natural remedies. His heart was filled with love for his many animals, which included his dogs, Paleface and Liona, his horse of over 20 years, Cheyenne, and chickens, rabbits and cats. David was also known for his inventive spirit. He enjoyed making and inventing things from what others might consider junk, turning discarded materials into treasures.

David was a kind and generous soul. He was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, and unwavering support for those around him. He enjoyed helping others and could do most anything. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the power of music that will resonate in our hearts forever.

David's race has been run, and he finished well! He has fulfilled God's purpose and plan for his life on earth and is now in heaven where the Joe Pierce Family Band is being reunited. His spirit will live on in the melodies he shared, the gardens he tended, the inventions he created, the stories he told, and the thousands of lives he touched. While he will be greatly missed by many, we rejoice in knowing that David is basking in the beauty of heaven and is "just fiddlin' around" on the streets of gold.
