Annette Thompson Crumpler

Lillie Annette Thompson Crumpler passed away in her beloved home on Old Chinquapin Road, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a years-long fight with cancer.

She was a beloved mom, stepmom, aunt (“Aint Nette”), friend, cousin, neighbor, and most importantly, grandmomma. She was loved by so many because of how much love she gave.

She is preceded in death by her loving partner and love of her life, Gale Williams, her younger brother Tommy Earl, and her parents, Odell Thompson and Carrie Lou Cole Thompson.

She is survived by 8 brothers and sisters and their spouses, 3 Sons and a spouse, 3 Stepsons and spouses, and 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that she was a big part of their lives. Plus, the six-million-dollar three-legged dog, Oliver.

Most of her closest family live in North Carolina, with a few living out of state. Annette was known to be a loving mom, grandmom, aunt, and sister, who was willing to help anyone who needed help or just needed cheering up (you couldn’t talk to her on the phone without getting a smile on your face: she was a master story-teller). Besides being at home in Beulaville and taking walks on her land at the river, her favorite place in the world was at Swansboro, where she and Gale spent many a day and night fishing, gigging flounder, and frying up enough fish or BBQ chicken to feed 30 or more people at a time. In her later years, helping to raise her grandchildren became her obsession and they are better people because of it. Anyone she was around is a better person because of her.

She will be missed by many.
