He is survived by his children: Alvis Earl Hines, Jr.; Rhonda Hines; Crissy Lanier and her husband, Joseph; and Jonathan Pierce and his wife, Denita. He was also a proud grandfather to Bodhee Williams; Curtis Lanier and his wife, Sarah; Ethan Lanier and his wife, Casey; Luke Lanier; Colt Pierce and his wife, Olivia; Samantha Benson and her husband, Eric; and Anita Lanier and her husband, Gerren. His great-grandchildren are Kendall Lanier, Jackson Lanier, Gavin Lanier, Carlie Benson, Madilynn Johnson, Payton Johnson, Hudson Pierce, Junie Lanier and Eliza Lanier. He is also survived by his nieces: Tammy Robbins and her husband, David; Brandi Wash and her husband, Hank; and Kayla Lanier and her husband, Joshua.
Earlier in his career, Earl repaired refrigerators, drove delivery trucks, and worked in appliance sales. He later spent many years in insurance sales before beginning a second career as a builder. Through his craftsmanship and dedication, he helped construct numerous schools throughout North Carolina, leaving a lasting mark on communities across the state.
Earl was gifted with his hands and took pride in creating and building throughout his life. In retirement, he remained active and happiest when working outdoors. He spent countless hours tending his garden, cutting grass, building picnic tables and nightstands, and simply enjoying the warmth of the sun on his back.
Known for his remarkable energy, vitality, and youthful spirit, Earl approached life with a sense of curiosity and wonder. He loved history, enjoyed a spirited debate, never passed up a good Western, and counted “Duke of Earl” among his favorite songs. He also treasured time with his best friend, David, whether they were riding the country roads or grabbing food together.
His family will remember his strength, work ethic, humor, and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Earl leaves behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and a deep love for family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
And wherever he is now, those who knew him best can picture him carrying the cowboy spirit he admired—independent, hardworking, and happiest outdoors among freshly cut grass and growing things.
You may honor Earl’s memory by spending time outdoors, building something with your hands, planting a garden, cutting the lawn, or simply enjoying the sunshine.
Community Funeral Home of Beulaville is honored to serve the Hines family.
